What to do in the Pendeen and West Cornwall Area
- Walk to the bottom of the village, and onwards towards the sea to join the Coast path. Walking west will take you towards Cape Cornwall and eventually Lands End.
- Visit Geevor or Levant Tin/Copper mine, both within view from the bottom of the village - Cornwall's No 1 Mining Centre - And, the largest preserved mining site in the UK! At Geevor you can take an underground tour ... at Levant, experience the Beam engine 'steam'.
- At Pendeen we have a lighthouse ... Pendeen Watch, and you can walk to it from here.
- Ancient Monuments are easily found; just 10 mins drive from the cottage towards St Ives, taking the first right after Morvah, will bring you two of the most well known - Men-an-Tol and Lanyon Quoit, up on the moors where you can get wonderful views too!
- National Trust properties - Trengwainton Gardens at Madron and 'magical' St Michael's Mount in Mount's Bay, Penzance are nearby and wonderful places to explore
- Galleries, everywhere! - painting, ceramics, sculpture, jewellery and more. Penlee House Museum in Penzance, features work from the famous 'Newlyn School' and Lamorna group of artists (1800-1930). Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum house exciting Contemporary Art collections... and are just another reason to visit the fascinating harbour-town of St Ives, a 'jewel' in the rugged north coast!
- A 'must' is a visit to the atmospheric cliff-top Minack Theatre at Porthcurno (a beautiful beach here too)...experience Shakespeare, a musical or even a Roald Dahl story, in the open air, under the stars!
- And of course Coves, Beaches and Harbours ... what Cornwall is famous for! Portheras Cove is our nearest, only accessible by foot! Take the footpath east at the lighthouse and a half-a-mile walk will take you to the secluded sandy cove. Sennen beach in Whitesand Bay, a perfect place for 'surfing the waves'. Mousehole just over to the south is a picture-perfect harbour, not to be missed!
